About Me

My name is Jack Small, and I’m a wildlife and macro photographer based in Colorado, USA, specializing in tropical amphibians with a particular focus on poison frogs!

Over the past several years, I’ve spent extensive time exploring remote rainforests in Peru, Panama, and Colombia, photographing some of the most colorful and elusive frog species in the world. What began as a fascination quickly became a specialty, and today I’m known for my work with poison frogs and for helping others photograph them ethically and responsibly in their natural habitats.

I’ve been photographing animals my entire life, and in 2018 I purchased my first dedicated camera to photograph my own frogs at home. Since then, photography has become a central passion of mine. While frogs remain my primary focus, I’m deeply interested in all forms of wildlife and regularly photograph birds, mammals, reptiles, plants, fungi, and other elements of the natural world!

I lead small, carefully curated photo tours designed to give each participant personal attention and meaningful time in the field. These trips are about more than photography alone. They’re about slowing down, learning from local experts, working in challenging environments, and developing a genuine connection with wildlife.

My goal on every tour isn’t just to help you take great photos—though you absolutely will—but to teach you how to work with light and technique in real field conditions, and to help you better understand and connect with the animals you’re photographing. Whether you’re an experienced photographer or picking up a camera for the first time, I strive to make each experience approachable, educational, and genuinely memorable.

I hope my images inspire you to join me in the field. There’s nothing I enjoy more than exploring wild places together, slowing down, and sharing unforgettable photography experiences in nature!
